All good things come to an end some time.

Today was our last official AJP Summer Intern 2012 Pizza Friday.  We took our yummy lunch to Alexis's beautiful patio/lanai and enjoyed some equally yummy beer and two equally enjoyable new Pizza Pals (one human named Jake and one feline named Georgie).  

Goodbyes are always hard, and it seems somewhat cheapened to express some real sentiment on a blog devoted mostly to eating pizza and feeding digital fish.  On behalf of all of the birds in the cage, I'm confident that I can say we made the right choice and that this summer has been...how can I say this...freaking awesome.

To the Bird Cagers of Summer 2013:

• As much as you want to, you won't get around to cleaning up the Cage.  Just accept that now.
• When Alex brings up blogging during the Boot Camp, you will think it's stupid.  It's not.  It's awesome.  Don't let our fish die :(  And please give us a shout out once in a while.
• You must Pizza Friday.
• If all else fails, open the desk drawers.
• We expect the dry erase board to be in exactly the same state as we left it.
• The bathroom is NOT for showering (unless derecho).
• The stoop out back is big enough for a Slip 'n Slide and/or inflatable pool.
• Integral Yoga has an excellent cheese selection.
• Take an afternoon walk around the fence at Washington Pool once in a while.
• Always be the first to suggest leaving early for office-wide afternoons at McGrady's.
• You are so lucky.  You're going to have a great summer working with some truly inspiring and brilliant people.  We hope you have as memorable, educational, and fun time as we did.

A Priceless Discovery

Three sleepy interns took an afternoon walk around the block today and learned that the Yoga health food store has free cheese samples!  Amazing! 

Mario apparently has a soft spot for soft goat cheese.

Mellow Mushroom's Hawaiian Pizza - 5 out of 5 (stars)

It's 102 degrees outside today, but that didn't stop us from enjoying the extra ham-my and parmasean-y deliciousness that is/was this pizza.  A great choice for the hottest day so far of the year!  Afternoon pizza coma is in full effect.

Sadly, we've determined the patio (lanai?) is unfit for chairs or a baby pool :(  We are not yet ruling out the possibility of a sprinkler.

On a related note, Washington Pool is shockingly uncrowded today.

Birthday in the Bird Cage!!!!!  We are sitting in the warm and happy glow of fresh cut flowers back here, courtesy of the world's sweetest little brother :-)  You can enjoy them too, and don't forget about happy hour tonight!

After a grueling trip to the gym, 100 lunges turned one intern into a self-declared "stork on ice."  Tried to find a relevant picture, but this blue footed booby is just too cute not to include...

Questions of the Day

Hey all you lawyers and future lawyers out there, the Bird Cage has some questions for you!  Your input, serious or not, will be much appreciated. 

If you're an owner of a business, can you also legally be an employee of the same business? 

If the VEC messes up and you receive unemployment benefits for over a year before the VEC realizes their mistake, can they really make you pay it back?

Dismissed!

A success story:  We had a client come in this week for help having his voting rights restored.  Turns out, he never even had a felony conviction, sooo his voting rights are still intact.  Nice work, interns. 

The bird cage has a new pond!  Or, it did, until Tim came and valiantly swept a pile of leaves out of the drain.  Watch out weatherman, these lawyers aren't afraid of any tornado watch. 

Making LAJC history...

Far away in one of the many hidden corners of LAJC, a new room has emerged:  The Bird Cage.  We arrived nearly two weeks ago to find this friendly fellow awaiting us, watching over the space that we would quickly fill with scattered, somewhat confidential papers.  Who else could claim this room but the mysterious drawing on our wipe off board?  All we know is that "Ty was here!"  If you know "Ty," you might let him know, he is now responsible for the christening of the room previously known as the room outside Carolyn's office.
